Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic

The Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic provides timely cardiology review for patients with stable chest pain suspected to be of possible cardiac origin.

This service is designed for stable outpatients without known coronary artery disease who require early specialist assessment and rapid access to appropriate cardiac investigations, without the delay of routine cardiology pathways.

Patients are assessed by Dr Vahid Moosavi, Cardiologist, with streamlined access to advanced cardiac testing where indicated. Investigations include:

Who is this service for:

Patients with new onset or worsening exertional chest discomfort suggestive of myocardial ischemia but clinically stable. Typical features include:

• Chest tightness, pressure or heaviness
• Symptoms precipitated by exertion or emotional stress
• Symptoms relieved by rest
• Symptoms lasting minutes rather than seconds

Patients with atypical or unclear chest symptoms and cardiovascular risk factors such as:

• Age >40 years
• Hypertension
• Diabetes mellitus
• Dyslipidaemia
• Smoking history
• Family history of premature coronary disease

Patients with suspected acute coronary artery disease including unstable angina need to be referred to Emergency Department for inpatient assessment. ST elevation on ECG is a medical emergency and need to be treated accordingly.
